If you smell gas – Basic Instructions
  1. NO FLAMES OR SPARKS!  Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames.  Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones or cell phones.
  2. LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY!  Get everyone out of the building or area where you suspect gas is leaking.
  3. SHUT OFF THE GAS.  Turn off the main supply valve on your propane tank if it safe to do so.  To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).
  4. REPORT THE LEAK.  From your neighbor’s home or other nearby building away from the gas leak, call your propane retailer right away.  If you can’t reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local fire department.
  5. DO NOT RETURN TO THE BUILDING OR AREA until your propane retailer, emergency responder, or qualified service technician determines that it is safe to do so.
  6. GET YOUR SYSTEM CHECKED.  Before you attempt to use any of your propane appliances, your propane retailer or qualified service technician must check your entire system to ensure it is leak free.

Call Before You Dig!
Commercial locates must always be performed prior to any digging. Locate services can be initiated by calling 811 or online at www.iowaonecall.com.

It is important to note that 811 locates search and mark only the commercial utility lines in the area. They do not search or mark any private lines which may exist. Examples of private lines may include: Private phone lines or power lines between buildings, water or electrical lines to private wells, septic leach fields, etc. It is important that all private lines also be identified and known prior to digging.

Rebates
Rebates are frequently available on water heaters, furnaces and other propane devices. As members of the Iowa propane Gas Association, we are able to work with your plumber and assist with the processing of your rebate application. Rebates received will show as a credit on your HCCO propane bill.

Heating Assistance
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally-funded program designed to assist low-income families meet the cost of home heating by providing a one-time payment to the heating utility company.

HCCO encourages all who qualify to apply. When needed, we can assist by providing any heating records which may be needed in the process.
